Making the decision to adopt

I have meet a lot of new friends on this journey and I have inspired couples take that leap of faith to adopt. When they had asked me about adoption, I am overcome with excitement and I jump in with all things adoption. You can tell when talking to someone that they are ready. They are not just ready to be pregnant or hold onto hope that another fertility treatment may succeed. They are ready to be a mother no matter the mounds of paperwork ahead, no matter the months of waiting in silence, no matter the DNA.

There were years that I lost that light in my eyes. YEARS. I became very good at hiding my sadness. I became an expert at lying to people about my struggles and ultimately lying to myself. I honestly thought if I could just try harder, drink less caffeine, exercise more, exercise less, stop drinking anything but water, go on vacation, drink more almond milk, take my temperature daily, test my ovulation, see every specialist, test my blood, and TAKE ALL THE SUPPLEMENTS that I would finally become pregnant. Talk about losing your mind.

In the midst of my controlling and (let's be honest) kinda crazy behavior, there was one very important thing I wasn't doing. I wasn't asking God what He wanted for my life. Don't get me wrong- I was praying, BOY WAS I PRAYING! But my prayers had tunnel vision: that we become pregnant. I wasn't asking God what He wanted for our lives as parents. I was assuming I knew what He wanted and if I tried harder, He would grant me that wish.

So here's the thing I've learned the hard way- this is not how our loving God works. He is not a magical, wish-granting genie. He is not waiting for me to say or do the right thing and then BAM give me what I've asked for. God wants our heart, all of our heart and He wants us to trust that He has the best in store for us. Nothing but the best. Once I shifted my prayers and began asking God to use me, my life drastically changed and slowly the light entered back in.

Wow, yeah, so- I could have become pregnant that year of 2010 and we could have moved on with our lives like many do. We would have been happy. We would have had some struggles but ultimately, we would have made it through.

But guess what happened instead?

Instead, I've had FIVE amazing years getting to know my husband better and we've made the best memories, just him and I, that I will cherish forever. God gave me nieces and nephews to love while waiting for a baby.

I can only describe it as being saved from drowning. I was deep, deep in sorrow, my heart was severely broken, and it was getting harder to breathe. In that moment that we deiced that we were going to adopt,  I was lifted.  I was also given the gift of courage to share my story. I've never been brave enough before, I was always ashamed of our infertility, but suddenly, and with new passion that wasn't of me, I wanted everyone to know everything I'd been through.
That was The Plan.
To share. To be brutally honest. To be translucent. For me, for you, and for all who come after me and need it. The Plan doesn't consist of just becoming a mother, that's just a part of the The Plan. God's Plan is SO MUCH MORE BEAUTIFUL AND GRATIFYING than that. The Plan was and continues to be about coming closer to God and giving my life over to Him, no matter  the *fill in the blank.*

So this year I have no other wish than to seek Jesus and wait on His perfect timing. Am I wanting a baby? Yes. Do I sometimes get impatient. YES. Is it possible we will go another year without having a child? Yes. Am I ready to fight the fight and trust that God will not let me drown, no matter what? YES! LET'S DO THIS, 2016!

End of 2015 and the beginning of 2016

So much has happen this month and we are excited to tell you all!
(Exciting news coming soon...next fundraiser event is going to be so much FUN!)

Home Study Progress:
This week we had our home visit which is the last thing to finish our home study! She hopes to have the paper part finished up by the end of this week (she is a school social worker and wants it done before she goes back to school) but she has until the end of January to complete it. So are fingers are crossed that she has it completed this week! Once this is complete we will be approved and ready to be matched with a birthmother/family!

Adoption Letter Progress:
Our designer (Our Chosen Child) will have the final proof to us this week! Once we approve it and LOVE it then she will turn it over to her boss to review it! Once they approve it then it goes to our agency for approval! Once everyone approves it they order ONE letter and have it overnighted to make sure everything looks the way we want it to look! Once that is approved then we get the go ahead to order 50 copies for potential birthmothers/families!

Online Profile Progress:
Once our agency approves our letter then we copy and paste the 'text' over to our online profile! We will be able to add lots of pictures to it also! This is the easiest part of this process!

Once these three items are finished then we are on the WAITING LIST to be MATCHED with a birthmother/family! This is so exciting!

Update on the Success of the Breakfast with Santa:
This was a VERY fun event! We had so much fun seeing all the kiddos and families that came to support us! We were able to profit $1900 from this event which was a huge relief! Thank you all for you that came to support it!

Furniture & Custom orders:
I can't thank everyone enough that has had us make furniture or decorations for them! It means so much to us that everyone loves what we do! All these orders has KEPT us very busy this year and been a huge blessing for Baby Morris! With that being said we are taking a break in January and February from building furniture and crafts due to the cold weather (stain and paint just won't dry very good when it's cold)! We will be opening back up in March for a few orders (more information about this will be coming soon) then we will be starting on CBF 2016 items!

Fundraising successful in 2015:
We need to save and pay $31,600 for adoption. We are at 67% of our funding goal already! This year so far has been a huge success! We are very thankful  & blessed for the talent we have to be able to have a booth at the Covered Bridge Festival and it helped us get half way to our goal! We have been able to get to this goal selling T-shirts, CBF, KEEP Collective donation, Bake sales, Scott Vest singing Gig, making furniture and orders, Breakfast with Santa, Puzzle Fundraiser, and DONATIONS! We would not be this successful with YOU!! We have lots of fun things planned for 2016!

Update!

Update!

November was a CRAZY month for us!! We have been pulled every which way to get EVERYTHING completed! We have been working on our adoption letter! This is one of the most important and difficult parts of our journey. The thought of sitting down and writing a complete ‘letter’ to a potential birthfamily is overwhelming! Not only is writing the text so perfect but choosing fonts, caption style, cover style, colors, and all the small details of the adoption letter! Then to have to get a 1-800 number, a text number, website, and an email to go along with the letter to give the birthmother all options to contact us!  We are half way finished with this process and can’t wait to see the letter finished! Then next step is getting our online profile (iheartadoption.org) finished! The profile will be a breeze once our adoption letter is finish!

The next step in the process is that we are waiting on the call to schedule our home visit! At this point we will be close to being on the waiting list! The home visit is a visit that they do to make sure that your home is safe for a little one to be in. They make sure you have space for a little one. Make sure you have all the safety needs for your home like smoke detector, fire extinguisher, carbon monoxide detector, and alarms on doors if you are close to a body of water. Once they come to the house then the agency has up to 45 days to complete the paper work and have us finalized to be on the wait list. They tell us it doesn’t take this long but to be prepared if it does. We REALLY want to be on the wait list by the end of the year but we will see!

We are so excited about this Saturday because it is our first fundraiser event! We will be hosting a Breakfast with Santa event! It will be at the Harmony Community Center in Brazil, IN on December 12th from 7-11am. We will be having pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast for breakfast with water, milk (chocolate and strawberry), regular coffee, and a HOT CHOCOLATE BAR! We will also have Santa and Mrs. Clause for a fun time to get those cute pictures! We will have a photo booth with fun props for the little ones that are not a fan of Santa! There will be a craft table available for items to purchase! We have 10 Thirty-One thermal totes filled with goodies available for raffle. These tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5. We will be having a puzzle fundraiser also and I’m so excited about this! We will be having this at all our fundraiser events until the puzzle is completed! Everyone who donates to our adoption through this fundraiser becomes a permanent part of our adoption journey; a piece of our puzzle!

Here’s how it works:

~We have customized a 200 piece puzzle. Each piece will represent someone who donated to help us bring Baby Morris home!

~Each puzzle piece is a minimum donation of $20!

~You may just want to be represented on one piece of our puzzle or on many pieces!

~Your name will be written on the back of each piece you represent!

Here are a few ways to get your puzzle piece(s):

~come to one of our events

~Go to the paypal link on the right side of this blog!

~Email us at morrisadoption@outlook.com for mailing address if you are interested in sending check, cash, or have questions.

~if you are not present when you make your donation then we will write your name on it and send you a picture J

Once our puzzle has been completed, we will hang it in a double sided frame in the nursery. This will be a beautiful keepsake for us and Baby Morris to cherish forever! We will always look back and be reminded of your generosity and investment in our family! You will be a part of completing the missing piece to our puzzle!

As always, thanks for your love, support, and your prayers! We need prayers for wisdom & creativity as we continue our adoption letter and online profile. Also, prayers that Saturday is a huge success and helps us get that much closer to making our dreams come true!

Successful Fundraising Month

When we started to look into adoption we were overwhelmed with the cost of adoption. We prayed and talked about it for months and finally took the leap of faith to adoption. We knew God was in control and he was guiding us to this decision. It brings tears to my eyes thinking about how bless we have been with our fundraising so far. I want to say again thank you to everyone that has supported us and prayed for is so far.

The Covered Bridge Festival was VERY successful and we were blessed to meet so many people! We had close to $1,000 in donations during those 10 days and I can’t even begin to tell you how appreciate we are for everyone’s generosity! We heard so many adoption stories and got lots of advice from people that have experienced adoption or knew something that has adopted.

A special thanks to Melissa Vest and everyone that helped me reach my goal in the KEEP Collective Fundraiser that was earlier this month. It was very successful and we raised $292.50 to help fund our adoption!

How you can be praying for us:

We are going to our first adoption workshop this Friday and Saturday! We are really hoping to be finished with everything & active (ready to be matched with a birth mother & baby) by the end of the year! We also have some important decisions to make concerning what we are comfortable with as far as levels of alcohol & drug exposure to our baby. These decisions are big & really hard to make. We would love for you to pray for God's wisdom & peace to cover us as we make these decisions & complete our remaining paperwork.
