End of 2015 and the beginning of 2016

So much has happen this month and we are excited to tell you all!
(Exciting news coming soon...next fundraiser event is going to be so much FUN!)

Home Study Progress:
This week we had our home visit which is the last thing to finish our home study! She hopes to have the paper part finished up by the end of this week (she is a school social worker and wants it done before she goes back to school) but she has until the end of January to complete it. So are fingers are crossed that she has it completed this week! Once this is complete we will be approved and ready to be matched with a birthmother/family!

Adoption Letter Progress:
Our designer (Our Chosen Child) will have the final proof to us this week! Once we approve it and LOVE it then she will turn it over to her boss to review it! Once they approve it then it goes to our agency for approval! Once everyone approves it they order ONE letter and have it overnighted to make sure everything looks the way we want it to look! Once that is approved then we get the go ahead to order 50 copies for potential birthmothers/families!

Online Profile Progress:
Once our agency approves our letter then we copy and paste the 'text' over to our online profile! We will be able to add lots of pictures to it also! This is the easiest part of this process!

Once these three items are finished then we are on the WAITING LIST to be MATCHED with a birthmother/family! This is so exciting!

Update on the Success of the Breakfast with Santa:
This was a VERY fun event! We had so much fun seeing all the kiddos and families that came to support us! We were able to profit $1900 from this event which was a huge relief! Thank you all for you that came to support it!

Furniture & Custom orders:
I can't thank everyone enough that has had us make furniture or decorations for them! It means so much to us that everyone loves what we do! All these orders has KEPT us very busy this year and been a huge blessing for Baby Morris! With that being said we are taking a break in January and February from building furniture and crafts due to the cold weather (stain and paint just won't dry very good when it's cold)! We will be opening back up in March for a few orders (more information about this will be coming soon) then we will be starting on CBF 2016 items!

Fundraising successful in 2015:
We need to save and pay $31,600 for adoption. We are at 67% of our funding goal already! This year so far has been a huge success! We are very thankful  & blessed for the talent we have to be able to have a booth at the Covered Bridge Festival and it helped us get half way to our goal! We have been able to get to this goal selling T-shirts, CBF, KEEP Collective donation, Bake sales, Scott Vest singing Gig, making furniture and orders, Breakfast with Santa, Puzzle Fundraiser, and DONATIONS! We would not be this successful with YOU!! We have lots of fun things planned for 2016!

                    Puzzle update!

Update!

Update!

November was a CRAZY month for us!! We have been pulled every which way to get EVERYTHING completed! We have been working on our adoption letter! This is one of the most important and difficult parts of our journey. The thought of sitting down and writing a complete ‘letter’ to a potential birthfamily is overwhelming! Not only is writing the text so perfect but choosing fonts, caption style, cover style, colors, and all the small details of the adoption letter! Then to have to get a 1-800 number, a text number, website, and an email to go along with the letter to give the birthmother all options to contact us!  We are half way finished with this process and can’t wait to see the letter finished! Then next step is getting our online profile (iheartadoption.org) finished! The profile will be a breeze once our adoption letter is finish!

The next step in the process is that we are waiting on the call to schedule our home visit! At this point we will be close to being on the waiting list! The home visit is a visit that they do to make sure that your home is safe for a little one to be in. They make sure you have space for a little one. Make sure you have all the safety needs for your home like smoke detector, fire extinguisher, carbon monoxide detector, and alarms on doors if you are close to a body of water. Once they come to the house then the agency has up to 45 days to complete the paper work and have us finalized to be on the wait list. They tell us it doesn’t take this long but to be prepared if it does. We REALLY want to be on the wait list by the end of the year but we will see!

We are so excited about this Saturday because it is our first fundraiser event! We will be hosting a Breakfast with Santa event! It will be at the Harmony Community Center in Brazil, IN on December 12th from 7-11am. We will be having pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast for breakfast with water, milk (chocolate and strawberry), regular coffee, and a HOT CHOCOLATE BAR! We will also have Santa and Mrs. Clause for a fun time to get those cute pictures! We will have a photo booth with fun props for the little ones that are not a fan of Santa! There will be a craft table available for items to purchase! We have 10 Thirty-One thermal totes filled with goodies available for raffle. These tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5. We will be having a puzzle fundraiser also and I’m so excited about this! We will be having this at all our fundraiser events until the puzzle is completed! Everyone who donates to our adoption through this fundraiser becomes a permanent part of our adoption journey; a piece of our puzzle!

Here’s how it works:

~We have customized a 200 piece puzzle. Each piece will represent someone who donated to help us bring Baby Morris home!

~Each puzzle piece is a minimum donation of $20!

~You may just want to be represented on one piece of our puzzle or on many pieces!

~Your name will be written on the back of each piece you represent!

Here are a few ways to get your puzzle piece(s):

~come to one of our events

~Go to the paypal link on the right side of this blog!

~Email us at morrisadoption@outlook.com for mailing address if you are interested in sending check, cash, or have questions.

~if you are not present when you make your donation then we will write your name on it and send you a picture J

Once our puzzle has been completed, we will hang it in a double sided frame in the nursery. This will be a beautiful keepsake for us and Baby Morris to cherish forever! We will always look back and be reminded of your generosity and investment in our family! You will be a part of completing the missing piece to our puzzle!

As always, thanks for your love, support, and your prayers! We need prayers for wisdom & creativity as we continue our adoption letter and online profile. Also, prayers that Saturday is a huge success and helps us get that much closer to making our dreams come true!

Successful Fundraising Month

When we started to look into adoption we were overwhelmed with the cost of adoption. We prayed and talked about it for months and finally took the leap of faith to adoption. We knew God was in control and he was guiding us to this decision. It brings tears to my eyes thinking about how bless we have been with our fundraising so far. I want to say again thank you to everyone that has supported us and prayed for is so far.

The Covered Bridge Festival was VERY successful and we were blessed to meet so many people! We had close to $1,000 in donations during those 10 days and I can’t even begin to tell you how appreciate we are for everyone’s generosity! We heard so many adoption stories and got lots of advice from people that have experienced adoption or knew something that has adopted.

A special thanks to Melissa Vest and everyone that helped me reach my goal in the KEEP Collective Fundraiser that was earlier this month. It was very successful and we raised $292.50 to help fund our adoption!

How you can be praying for us:

We are going to our first adoption workshop this Friday and Saturday! We are really hoping to be finished with everything & active (ready to be matched with a birth mother & baby) by the end of the year! We also have some important decisions to make concerning what we are comfortable with as far as levels of alcohol & drug exposure to our baby. These decisions are big & really hard to make. We would love for you to pray for God's wisdom & peace to cover us as we make these decisions & complete our remaining paperwork.

Financial Part of this process

Financial Part of this process

We’ve promised a post that focused on the financial aspects of our adoption! I hope this post will help answer some questions you might have about the financial part of adoption-how much our adoption will cost, what the cost will cover, and why we are fundraising. We want to be upfront about this fundraising process for a couple of reasons. One is because we get asked these questions! Also, our hope is to educate people about the adoption process and that includes the financial part of it! Another reason is because we want the people involved in our fundraising to know the details about what their giving is going towards!

How much will the adoption cost?

First let’s start with how much we are anticipating spending on our adoption. We shared in a previous post that the average adoption is typically somewhere between $20,000 and $45,000. Our adoption range will be around $23,000 to $31,000. We aren’t sure what the final expense will be yet, but as of now, we are expecting for it to be this amount.

What does that cost cover?

Pre-Adoption Services:

Completed home study

Annual home study updates, assigned social working who provides support throughout the process

Adoptive Parent Profile listing online

support groups

Matching and Placement Services:

Pre-natal care for the birthmother (everything from housing, utilities, maternity clothes, toiletries, etc.)

Legal Fees

Social Services (transportation to and from doctor’s appointments, counseling, phone time, etc)

Baby’s Medical Expense

Birth Mother’s medical (if not covered by Medicaid)

Travel fees

Cost of our Dear Birthmother letters & printing

Lifetime support for birthparents and counseling sessions for adoptive parents

Why fundraise?

When we started our adoption journey, we were very intimidated by how much we were going to spend. We talked about the cost, thought about it and prayed about it, set a budget and felt at peace about moving forward with our adoption regardless of the high expense. We knew from the beginning that God was calling us to adoption and that he was going to provide the money for us to bring our sweet little baby home!

Our goal is to be creative with our fundraisers. We want to bring in funds in a way that blesses everyone involved in the process. We have SO many ideas & plans for fundraising & hope that we can provide ways for as many people to be involved as possible!

I hope this post has given you a little more insight into our adoption fundraising process! Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have!

Questions and Answers

Answers to your Questions!

I can't really put into words how blessed we have felt this week after announcing our adoption! Thank you so much for all of the love and support! We have been so encouraged and touched by all of the responses!

We have gotten so many questions about our adoption journey over the past week. We thought it would be a good idea to post some of the most frequently asked! Feel free to ask us more, so you can learn as we learn!

Where will Baby Morris be born? Do you have a baby picked out already?
We are pursuing domestic adoption, meaning we are adopting from within the U.S. We won’t know what state or when our baby will be born in until a birth mother chooses us to be the adoptive parents.

How does this process work?

In our last post, we talked about our home study, which is the first major step in our adoption process. We have just started the process of the home study and it can take 4 months to get this completed.

(Refer back to our first post to read more about the home study!)

We are currently working on our Dear Birthmother letter and our online profile book. Our letter and profile book will play an important part in our adoption. This is basically a scrapbook of our lives. It includes pictures of us, describes our life, interests, beliefs and what kind of life we hope to give to a child. The purpose of this book is to allow the birthmother (and father if he is involved) to see if they can picture their child becoming part of our family.

Once we have completed our home study, our letter and online profile book, we will be ready to present to birthmothers. This means that our adoption agency will start “matching” us with potential birthmothers. Our profile book will then be presented to birthmothers. The birthmother could be presented with many books at a time! She will look through them and choose the family she can picture raising her child. We might have to present our profile book to multiple birthmothers before one chooses us! Once we are chosen, than we are presented the birthmothers profile with all her information and decide on if we want to be a MATCH! Once we decide that, than we are committed to that baby (although the birthmother could still decide to parent her child up until shortly after the child is born).

How long will it take?

We aren’t sure! The typical adoption process can take anywhere from just a few months to a few years. Our adoption agency tells the adoptive parents to plan on it taking 12-18 months (once we are approved and “active”).

What are the expenses of adoption?
Adoptions are expensive. Adoptions in the U.S. typically range from $20,000-$45,000. The cost is very intimidating and most people are shocked when they learn about the financial side of adoption.

We are currently researching and thinking about ways to fundraise and finance our adoption. We will be starting to apply for grants once our home study is completed (It is a requirement to wait until the home study is complete). We will be fundraising throughout our adoption process so that we will be prepared financially when Baby Morris is ready to come home!

 How old? Gender? Name?

We are adopting a newborn. We are hoping to be there (wherever it ends up being) the day our baby is born (or as soon as possible).

We are excited to see which baby God will place in our family. When praying and talking about our options, Chris and I both felt like we should be open minded and we don’t have a preference for gender! We might be able to find out the gender once we are matched with a birthmother. However, we might not know the gender until the baby is actually born! We don’t have a name or even starting thinking about names! We will be able to pick the name but we wont be worrying about this until we have been matched which will still be awhile.
Oli (Our dog)?!
It warms my heart that so many people have asked about Oli! If you know me then you know how much I adore my dog! Oli has brought so much joy to our lives during this difficult time. Oli will be just fine! We will continue to show him the same amount of attention as we do now when we get our bundle of joy!

How can we help?

The number one way we would love for you to be a part of our journey is through prayer! There are so many unknowns in this process; we believe that God has a plan for us and that HE is in control! Pray for our hearts to fully trust in Him through the journey!

You can consider to participate in the fundraisers that we will be putting on. We are brainstorming about fundraisers right now and will definitely need people who are willing to volunteer, donate items, time and resources!

Finally, keep asking us about our adoption adventure! We love to talk about it and it helps us feel supported and excited!

We have a t-shirt champain going on until September 11th! We are excited about introducing these t-shirts for our fundraising! When you buy a t-shirt, you will be investing in our family! We cannot tell you how much that means to us. We truly are so grateful for all of the wonderful people who support us!

Launching Our T-shirt Fundraiser

Launching Our T-Shirt Fundraiser!

We are really excited about starting our t-shirt fundraiser! We love the shirts we designed and we hope you will too!

-There are 5 t-shirt styles available: unisex, ladies, youth, long sleeved & sweatshirt!

How this fundraiser works:

We've designed our shirt, set our "minimal shirt sales goal" & launched our online t-shirt fundraiser through a site called Bonfire funds. In order for this fundraiser to be successful, we have to sell at least 100 t-shirts in 2 weeks! As long as we meet this "minimum shirt sales goal", Bonfire prints & ships all shirts directly to our supporters!

If we are not able to reach our minimum shirt sales goal, our fund ends, no shirts are made, no one is charged & no money is exchanged. If (when!) we do meet our goal, Bonfire will print, ship & charge you for your order. SO, in order to meet our goal, we have to sell at least 100 shirts in 2 weeks! We are hoping to go over & beyond this goal with your help!!!

How you can help:

1. Please consider joining our journey by purchasing a t-shirt!

To view & purchase our t-shirts visit:

2. We would love for you to share our Bonfire page on your social media outlets & with your friends & family! Spreading the word about this fundraiser is crucial to its success!

3. Continue to pray for our fundraising efforts! We are confident that God is calling us to adopt & is going to help us bring in the money we need to do so!

We have 2 weeks to reach our goal!!!

Thanks so much for being a part of such an exciting time in our lives!!!

COVERED BRIDGE FESTIVAL

COVERED BRIDGE FESTIVAL

Hello! We have felt SO loved, supported & encouraged by so many of YOU since making our big announcement! I can't even to begin to tell you how it makes us feel to get all the texts, calls, messages, and kind words that we have received in the last week.

We have been incredibly busy this year making items for the Covered Bridge Festival! As some of you may or may not know Adoption is very expensive; we have been working very hard because 100% of the money raised at the festival this year will go towards our adoption! Our goal is to make as many items as we can to raise as much money as we can! We are so blessed and excited to think that all of our hard work will go towards what we have hoped and prayed for!

We have focused quite a bit of time looking into adoption and interviewing agencies so we could be sure we made the right decision. We now have 5 more weeks to finish making all the items we have left to make. We plan to spend every second we have left in doing so! We know that all of our hard work will pay off!

We have been blessed with this incredible opportunity to change the life of a child and make our family whole. Thanks in advance for everyone's support along this journey!

This year the dates are October 9th- 18th from 9am-6pm daily! This year we were offered a great INDOOR spot inside of the "Old Firehouse" on Main Street. We will be in the Southeast section of the building.
Front of the building we will be located in!

Back of the building we will he located in!

Directions to Bridgeton Festival: Turn west off of State Road 59 onto 900 South. Turn left onto Country Road 550 then right onto Hawkins Road. Parking will be on your left.

Our Annoucement!

We are ADOPTING!

Chris and I are thrilled to announce that we have started the process of adoption! We are incredibly excited and filled with joy about this new direction God is leading our family towards. We decided to start this blog so that we could bring our family and friends along with us on this journey!

Let us start by filling you in on how we came to this decision. The end of 2010 Chris and I started trying to get pregnant. After a year of trying to conceive, we decided to go to our doctor to see if there was something wrong. We were diagnosed with infertility in 2012. Along with that I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and have endometriosis. This was an extremely difficult time for us, and I took it especially hard. I honestly felt like all of my dreams came crashing down around me. The sadness and devastation I felt were indescribable. I felt hopeless, alone and abandoned by God. The one thing I’ve always desired to be is a mom and I’ve always felt like my calling was to be a mommy because growing up I always helped with my younger brothers and sister. After being diagnosed with infertility, I felt cheated by God and felt lots of anger, confusion and a great sense of loss for the biological children I have always hoped to have. Pregnancy announcements, pictures of babies, and even people just bringing up anything related to children in a conversation was enough to send me into a fit of tears or worse. I’m so thankful for my close friends and family who prayed for me and hugged me when there weren’t the right words to comfort me.

After going through IVF (in-vitro fertilization), a few unsuccessful IUI (intrauterine insemination) treatments, and a miscarriage; we felt like it was the right time for us to pursue adoption. As soon as we made the decision to seriously look into adoption, I felt an OVERWHELMING sense of peace; joy and purpose come back into my life. This helped confirm in my heart that God was directing our steps towards adoption. Through the very early stages of our adoption process, I felt God start to mend the hole in my heart and giving me a refreshed hope and a new dream for our family. We received so much encouragement from close friends and family when we told them about pursing adoption. We filled out an application with an adoption agency and started our journey with adoption.

Adoption will allow us to follow our desire to start our family and we are so thankful we have this option! I know many people won’t understand our decision to adopt but we feel that this is best choice to become parents. Basically, we believe that any child we adopt will be just as much “our own” as any biological child we could have. We don’t see adoption as a second choice; we see adoption as a beautiful way for God to provide a family for us. We believe that God is opening new doors and wants us to take a different direction. We would love for those of you following along with our journey to parenthood to pray for an expecting birth mother's decision to choose us, every child in need of adoption, revelation about what is wrong in our bodies, doctors who are wise and willing to help us treat our infertility and for complete healing and the ability to conceive and birth biological children. Regardless of what may happen in the future with our infertility diagnosis, we know that God is calling us to start our family now through adoption and we are responding in faith!

Where we are in the process now:

We are still in the beginning stages of adoption. The biggest thing we are working on right now is completing our home study. A home study is conducted by a licensed social worker. The purpose of the home study is to educate, evaluate and prepare us for adoption. The home study consists of home visits, extensive background checks, health evaluations, collecting references, as well as paperwork and interviewing. Once we have completed our home study, we will be approved and one step closer to becoming parents!

We are also working on researching and brainstorming creative ways to fundraise and finance our adoption. We will go into the financial aspects of adoption in another post!

How you can pray for us:

Pray that our home study process will continue to go smoothly and that we will be approved quickly and without any complications.

Pray for us as we face questions surrounding our infertility diagnosis and adoption journey. Pray for God to give us the grace and wisdom to answer all questions (even the invasive, rude or insensitive ones) with truth, love and kindness. We want our journey to help educate others on adoption and also to allow others to understand more about God’s amazing love.

Please pray for all of the details of our adoption to fall into place-from the legal aspects, to fundraising, our hopes and dreams as a family come true.

Thank you for joining our adoption adventure! We are so thankful to have the support of our family and friends! Stay tuned for more posts and information on how you can be involved in bringing Baby Morris home!
