Financial Part of this process
We’ve promised a post that focused on the financial aspects of our adoption! I hope this post will help answer some questions you might have about the financial part of adoption-how much our adoption will cost, what the cost will cover, and why we are fundraising. We want to be upfront about this fundraising process for a couple of reasons. One is because we get asked these questions! Also, our hope is to educate people about the adoption process and that includes the financial part of it! Another reason is because we want the people involved in our fundraising to know the details about what their giving is going towards!
How much will the adoption cost?
First let’s start with how much we are anticipating spending on our adoption. We shared in a previous post that the average adoption is typically somewhere between $20,000 and $45,000. Our adoption range will be around $23,000 to $31,000. We aren’t sure what the final expense will be yet, but as of now, we are expecting for it to be this amount.
What does that cost cover?
Completed home study
Annual home study updates, assigned social working who provides support throughout the process
Adoptive Parent Profile listing online
Matching and Placement Services:
Pre-natal care for the birthmother (everything from housing, utilities, maternity clothes, toiletries, etc.)
Social Services (transportation to and from doctor’s appointments, counseling, phone time, etc)
Baby’s Medical Expense
Birth Mother’s medical (if not covered by Medicaid)
Cost of our Dear Birthmother letters & printing
Lifetime support for birthparents and counseling sessions for adoptive parents
When we started our adoption journey, we were very intimidated by how much we were going to spend. We talked about the cost, thought about it and prayed about it, set a budget and felt at peace about moving forward with our adoption regardless of the high expense. We knew from the beginning that God was calling us to adoption and that he was going to provide the money for us to bring our sweet little baby home!
Our goal is to be creative with our fundraisers. We want to bring in funds in a way that blesses everyone involved in the process. We have SO many ideas & plans for fundraising & hope that we can provide ways for as many people to be involved as possible!
I hope this post has given you a little more insight into our adoption fundraising process! Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have!
